Step back in time at Ford's Theatre in Washington DC, District of Columbia (DC). This historic theater is famous for being the site of President Abraham Lincoln's assassination in 1865. Today, Ford's Theatre serves as a working theater and a museum.
Visitors can attend live performances, including plays and musicals, as well as explore exhibits that detail Lincoln's presidency and the events surrounding his assassination. The theater is part of the Ford's Theatre National Historic Site, which also includes the Petersen House, where Lincoln passed away. Ford's Theatre offers a compelling blend of history and entertainment.

Very fortunate to have been able to spend time in both the theatre and where Abe died across the street. Museum was primarily story boards which is not a museum to me, sorry. Don’t get me wrong they has many reproduction props and what they called the actual gun Booth used and a blood stained pillow from that awful night. Theatre was beautiful and held a historical string on my heart but was obviously restored/rebuilt to modern specs. Such as padded wide seats, modern lighting, etc. i wasnt expecting a play but was very impressed with the one provided. Top notch actors and legitimate emotion during the show. House where Abe died was a bit somber but knowing it was 100% rebuilt hurt the authenticity to me. Again the “aftermath”
Museum was mainly storyboards which in my opinion isn’t a museum. I would expect more artifacts. Worth a visit to pay respects to the President and great man. But not something I would come to again.
This was my second time to visit this place and luckily they opened the theater to see inside where President Lincoln was shot. After you visit Ford’s Theatre, don’t forget to visit Petersen House, is across the street, where President Lincoln died. The ticket to enter is same ticket as the one to enter Ford’s Theatre. No need to reserve tickets online, just check what zone will be opened on the day that you go. Because my first time, three months ago, the theater was closed.
This is a MUST DO experience when in D.C. It was so amazing and informative and raw! We did the self guided and got to spend the perfect amount of time seeing everything. The staff is very knowledgeable and is willing to give you insider facts, so don't be afraid to ask them questions. They blew my mind! Ask about seat number 7 in the theater...its very cool! Can't say enough good things about this place and how well it's been done.
Amazing historical site to visit! I loved how much information there was about Lincoln, ranging from the early days of his political career to the night he was murdered, especially all the accomplished as President. The theatre was reconstructed to be how it was at the time of the assassination, so you get a good idea of what it looked like to the witnesses. Glad I went and I recommend it to all!
