We loved visiting this basilica. Both Michelangelo and Galileo can be found here in their tombs. There is a beautiful courtyard and a few areas where relics of saints remain. There is a lot of Latin and Italian and not a ton of English to be read but it is beautiful nonetheless.
We went on a Friday when it was raining. There was little to no wait and a toilet for easy use.
There were multiple rooms for viewing such as the old cafeteria hall where the holy priests and monks used to eat way back in the day. The church and altar were breath taking with the gold surrounding the main focus points.
I would recommend doing this during rain or during the week. Otherwise lots of people and big groups we found were in and out constantly. We did not buy tickets before and tickets are 8 euros per person.
Monumental cathedral that hosts tombs and cenotaphs of decisive figures in world's culture and science. A very good opportunity to stop and reflect on many things...
Our comfortable and serene modern life has countless roots in Florence, a crucible of arts and knowledge. Viewing and understanding the past helps to leap into the future.
If you are visiting Florence, then I would say that this is a must-see.
Very cheap to get in, and you can see they are using the money to perform restoration.
It is stunning to look around, I would say that it is worth spending 45-60 minutes in it, just wandering around.
Remember that you need to dress appropriately for it. Our experience was that they are happy with shorts/dresses but need to cover your shoulders. Would recommend checking their website if you aren't sure.
The place is amazing, going through all the people who had a huge impact on Italy (but not only) was really a great moment.
The basilica is beautiful, the details are amazing, I was really impressed by the height of the basilica and the roof details.
One downside was related to the "service", our little one wanted to go to the restroom but the person refused us the entrance because the basilica was closing 15 minutes later... This person just yelled at us "toilet closed!"...
