The Upper Armeries of the National Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo host the irresistible exhibition-performance dedicated to the effervescent Sixties, curated by Stefano Dominella and Guillermo Mariotto with sets by Virginia Vianello.

The Sweet Sixties. Narrations of Fashion is a time travel through the era that left an indelible mark on lifestyles, leaving the world of fashion with an extraordinary legacy of inspirations to draw from.

A cultural and social revolution that has its origins in "Swinging London", as Time defined the British capital in 1966, creating icons and reimagining the style of an entire generation to the rhythm of the Beatles: clothes, shoes and accessories that shine in the colorful shop windows of Carnaby Street, including the miniskirts of Mary Quant, or in the elegant King's Road, like the sensual creations of Ossie Clark, while pantyhose and bob hair go crazy. Italy is pleasantly overwhelmed by the brilliant Elio Fiorucci, who creates and launches on the market the idea of a lifestyle made of jeans and delicious t-shirts with little angels and hearts, giving life to a real international subculture between rides in Vespa and Lambretta and nights dancing in clubs.

The exhibition itinerary unfolds in five rooms and fifty looks, which tell the atmosphere of a light and dreamy age, through visual contaminations and upcycling that combine historical clothes with garments and accessories recovered in flea markets and vintage shops.

In the first room, Carnaby Street, two looks by Guillermo Mariotto dominate the center of the environment, accompanied by passers-by dressed as young women during a day of shopping in London's cult boutiques. The second chapter reflects on free associations, between naturalistic and luxuriant prints, such as the colorful plumage of the "fashion gardener" Ken Scott and the pop references of denim and Fiorucci's little angels.

The third room evokes the lunar atmospheres of Courrèges, Pierre Cardin, Paco Rabanne and Valentino Garavani, rediscovered in the form of metal, PVC and helmet-like hats. We continue with the glamor of the fourth room: bold hues, colours, embroideries and sequins of the marvelous creations with which high fashion dressed the bourgeois for special occasions, remembered with a selection of archive dresses including those by Sartoria Battilocchi, Jole Veneziani, Gattinoni, Lancetti, Mila Schön and Carosa.

Finally, in the Optical Room the intriguing geometries of black and white dominate, the two colors-non-colors par excellence, to then conclude the itinerary with the celebration of art through the creative testament of Giuseppe Capogrossi and the work of the Cursed Painters of Rome , recalling the extraordinary evocative power and the infinite possibilities of fashion.

Contrary to what is indicated on the site (and as happens in the vast majority of European state museums), the reduction is intended for young people up to the age of 25 (and not under 26). I thank the very nice lady at the ticket office for pointing it out with such satisfaction, after having also made us wait to fumble on the phone like a twelve year old.
